There are countless methods on the internet for repairing yellowed headlights and making them roadworthy again. Most of them are only successful in the short term or even pose a safety risk.

Structure of new-generation headlights:
Every headlight with a plastic cover is coated with clear lacquer after production. This layer of paint protects the soft plastic cover and makes it stable. Over time, stone chips, insects and weather conditions cause this layer of paint to yellow and cloud the headlight.

The only way to repair this is to sand down the yellowed layer of paint and apply a new protective layer of paint. The right products play an important role in this process.
Some manufacturers recommend grinding and polishing pastes to solve this problem. However, these only remove the yellowed lacquer layer, leaving the soft cover unprotected. After a few weeks, the plastic cover is completely destroyed and the headlights have to be replaced.

Many manufacturers offer paint kits, but use products that are not designed for headlight repair. Conventional plastic primers are far too aggressive for the headlight cover and leave tiny cracks and craters. These cracks and craters cause micro-scattering of the light, reducing light output by up to 30%.

DasAuto uses a special aqua primer for this purpose. It takes slightly longer to dry, but does not attack the relatively soft plastic body of the headlight.
Only with the right products can the result be right, safety be guaranteed for a long time and the headlights be TÜV-approved again. New product: The headlight paint has been further developed by the manufacturer and combined with a plastic primer. Primer and clear coat are now applied in a single spray pass. No more plastic primer needed! In our repair instruction video, the plastic primer and headlight clear coat are still applied separately in two painting processes – this is no longer necessary with the new 2-in-1 product.
